Should I Install a Dehumidifier in My Home?

Air temperature isn’t the only thing you need to worry about when it comes to keeping your indoor climate comfortable. Humidity is also a major factor, not only in your comfort but in your health and quality of life. If your home’s air is chronically humid, you might want to consider installing a dehumidifier to address it. Read on for some of the problems high humidity can cause, and how a dehumidifier can fix it.

Issues with Low Humidity

As you probably already know, your body is largely comprised of water. Because of that, it relies on certain humidity levels in order to operate at peak efficiency. Consistently high humidity can cause problems with some of the body’s systems. For example, your body regulates its internal temperature by sweating. It vents thermal energy into sweat, and when the sweat evaporates it takes the heat with it. That’s how your body cools itself. The higher the humidity level of the air, though, the higher the evaporation point of liquids. That includes sweat. What this means is that if the air in your home is really humid, you won’t be able to cool off as easily because your sweat is taking longer to evaporate.

High humidity can also cause mold growth. Many kinds of household mold are relatively harmless, but there are a few that can cause very serious health issues. You don’t want to let mold thrive in your house, which is why you want to install a dehumidifier.

Dehumidifiers

A dehumidifier removes excess moisture from the air in your home. How this is done depends on the type of dehumidifier, but the important thing is that it can keep your home’s humidity levels under control without compromising climate control.
