Why Diesel Particulate Filters Are Necessary

With the recent Volkswagon scandal regarding their diesel vehicles, a lot of questions are being raised about diesel and its role in transportation. A lot of people are curious about why diesel is subject to tighter environmental restrictions, and why it is a big deal in the first place. We’d like to take this opportunity to share some info on why things like diesel particulate filters are necessary. Read on for more information.

Diesel vs. Gasoline

Diesel fuel has been around for a very long time, though it didn’t really come to be used by cars in this country until the 1970s. It is very popular in other countries because of its high ratio of energy to fuel burned. Diesel fuel is incredibly efficient, around 35% more so than gasoline. So how come we aren’t all driving diesel vehicles? Unfortunately, that added efficiency comes with a catch. Burning diesel creates more combustion byproducts than burning gasoline does. A lot more. This is why it is so important to have a quality diesel particulate filter on your diesel vehicle. It allows you to make use of that added efficiency without belching black smoke all over the place every time you start your vehicle.

Why You Need to Have Your Diesel Filter Cleaned

Like all filters, diesel filters will eventually become clogged if they aren’t cleaned in a timely fashion. A clogged diesel filter is a useless diesel filter. In fact, it tends to make your vehicle run less efficiently. So it is important that you have your filter checked and cleaned at least once every few months. That will keep your vehicle running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

If you need your diesel particulate filter cleaned or changed, call Roznovak’s Services. We serve the entire Georgetown, TX area.
