We have written at length about the importance of scheduling air conditioning maintenance, but we haven’t really talked about what specifically happens during an air conditioning maintenance appointment. The better you understand the procedures involved with air conditioner maintenance, the better you’ll be able to recognize the benefits associated with it. Let’s take a look at just a few of the more common air conditioner maintenance procedures.
Checking the Air Filter
The air filter is the part that keeps the evaporator coil from becoming dirty and icing over. If the air filter is not cleaned or replaced often enough, it will cause the coil to ice over and become damaged. One of the most basic things that we do on every maintenance appointment is check the air filter, and clean or replace it if necessary.
Check for Refrigerant Leaks
Refrigerant is the lifeblood of your air conditioning system. If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it can drain the system of the refrigerant that it needs to operate. If the refrigerant level drops too low, the system will eventually break down. Because of how serious a refrigerant leak can be, we always check the refrigerant line for any leaks during a maintenance appointment.
Checking the Thermostat
You could have a perfectly healthy air conditioning system, but a malfunctioning thermostat can still cause a lot of problems. If you don’t have a healthy thermostat, you’re not going to have a properly functioning air conditioning system. So we run the thermostat through a series of tests to make sure that everything is working as it should at the same time that we check the air conditioner.
